Thanks For A Great Season

The 2023-24 Exeter Hawks were eliminated in the Yeck Division semi finals of the PJHL on Wednesday night on home ice. The 1st place Thamesford Trojans halted the Hawks high spirits 4 games to 0.

After a thrilling 3 games to 1 comeback in round one vs the Dorchester Dolphins the Hawks ran out of gas in Game 4.

“We played right with Thamesford in games 1,2 and 3 with scores of 2-1, 4-2 and 5-3 respectively”, stated Head Coach Tyler Bryson. Thamesford scored empty net goals in games 2 and 3 to seal the wins.

“Our team finally got healthy going into the playoffs and the boys played their best hockey of the season”, remarked Assistant Coach Sean Consitt.

Special teams was key in the 1st round, but sputtered against Thamesford which ultimately spelled the end of a Cinderella story. “We had many chances throughout the series, but also ran into a very hot Thamesford goalie”, commented Assistant Coach Jeremy VanBergen

Exeter should be very proud on how the finished the year. There were lots of peaks and valleys throughout the year, but the team came together in the 2nd season and played their best hockey. Even though the season ended too early there are a lot of positives to take away from the team. Jack Dalrymple was terrific in net all year, the first year junior players gained a lot of experience, the team picked up some excellent Jr B talent before the deadline and returning veterans are expected to be even stronger next season

Unfortunately as another season ends we say goodbye to our overagers. Jack Robinson, Connor Aarts, Keagan Lavigne and Andrew Gysbers will be missed. Robinson and Aarts were stalworth defensemen for the Hawks for the past 4 years.

“I was fortunate to coach Robby and Aartsy for the past 3 years. They have been the heart and sole of this team for a long time. They lead by example and I am confident that work ethic will be passed onto a lot of players in this room”, said Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager Brent Nairn.

The Hawks would like to thank all the media, sponsors, fans, family members, executive, coaches and players for another season. Without all the support from our community we would not have junior hockey in our town. Everyone mentioned is a fan. Our home game fan support was second to none this year. We would say we even had the best road fans. President Darren Kints added, “Our expectations are to put a winning product on the ice. The foundation is there, and we are going to do everything we can to add pieces to it.
